The Forgotten Vets Program
Many veterans may one day need to become permanent residents in a nursing care facility due to age and/or health reasons. The financial cost of these homes can sometimes leave the veteran with little to no expendable income. Sometimes veterans cannot afford simple necessities such as new clothing or shoes which can improve their day-to-day quality of life. The FVP was created to "sponsor" these veterans who need support, and financial help to improve their quality of life. Additionally, many veterans who are residents in nursing homes have little to no regular contact with family or friends outside of the home. These men and women are our brothers and sisters and regardless of branch of service, age, or combat experience, the FVP will ensure that they are not forgotten. The FVP will provide companionship, fellowship, and a listening ear so these veterans remember that they have a family who cares about their welfare and morals. Should a "sponsored" veteran with the FVP pass away the chapter will assist the family in any way possible. This includes, but is not limited to, providing an escort for the funeral, pal bearing, flag line, eulogies, or whatever is needed to respectfully honor their loved one. In addition, the FVP was established to remember our fellow CVMA members who are deployed to hostile environments. The program supports their loved ones, sends care packages, and remains a liaison between the chapter and our deployed members until they safely return home. With the Forgotten Vets Program all of our deployed and sponsored veterans are continually supported here at home by their CVMA family.
