The Failure to Adapt chapter began its existence as a detachment under our parent chapter 4-2 in Camdenton, Mo.
The first official meeting as a new chapter was convened on July 20, 2013 at 1100 hours at The Elbow Inn Bar & Grill with the interim Commander, Nick “Doctore” Hadley, bringing the meeting to order. Sixteen Full Members, one Auxiliary Member, one Support Member, and two visitors were signed in and a quorum was noted in the meeting minutes. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Tony “Giff” Gifford and Joe “Swee” Hamilton led the prayer. Since there were no chapter officers, the first order of business was to nominate and elect an Executive Officer (XO), Secretary, Sergeant at Arms, and Treasurer.

The chapter officers took their respective seats at the head table and discussed the future of the Failure to Adapt Chapter and the way ahead to reach our goal of helping veterans in need. Since all chapters have a motto, one member mentioned that under Chapter 4-11 for military discharges, it was also referred to the “Failure to Adapt” discharge. With that, we voted for and adopted the motto of the Failure to Adapt Chapter.
The first patch ceremony was conducted by the Chapter Commander, Executive Officer and Sergeant at Arms, and the newest members of the Failure to Adapt Chapter were sworn and welcomed into the CVMA.

During the subsequent months, monthly chapter meetings were conducted at local and family-owned businesses to support the community that assisted the chapter to perform our mission of Veterans helping Veterans. This increased the knowledge of our association’s mission and generated interest of other veterans to become a part of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, resulting in the Failure to Adapt Chapter doubling in size by February 2014, and by 2016 it was recognized as the largest chapter within Missouri.
The larger number of chapter members increased our capabilities; allowing us to provide more support and assistance to our local veterans and the community. Chapter members were able to increase the frequency of visits to veterans residing in assisted living facilities and retirement homes, participation in community functions, and untimely the participation in bother and sisterhood functions within the chapter.
To date, the chapter has had the honor to partner with many community and national organizations that support veteran causes; most notable, Wheels 4 Warriors. Members of the Failure of Adapt continue to remain motivated to support and defend those who have defended their country and their freedoms and visit veterans to engage in conversation, or simply to say “thank you” and “welcome home”.
